Kraków Main Market Square shooting: fire service reports deaths and injuries

Last updated: Reading time: 2 min

A shooting took place in Kraków’s Main Market Square on 7 November 2026. A spokesperson for the Małopolska fire service, quoted by RMF24 and Polsat News, reported deaths and injuries. However, Polsat News said police had not confirmed any fatalities. An emergency response was under way, with an air ambulance helicopter landing in the square.

According to the fire service spokesperson, shots were fired from a passing car. Polsat News confirmed that a shooting had taken place with a local police spokesperson. Firefighters urged people nearby to take shelter somewhere safe.

Polsat News reported, citing police, that a person suspected of involvement in the shooting had been detained. Police also reported that two officers had been injured. The detention does not establish the suspect’s guilt or, in itself, mean that the danger has passed.

A Polsat News reporter separately reported that nine members of the public had been injured. These were preliminary reports during an ongoing emergency response, rather than a final casualty count. The figures should not be added together: the reporting does not establish whether they represent separate counts.

The main discrepancy between the emergency services’ accounts concerned fatalities. The fire service spokesperson reported deaths, but according to Polsat News, police had not confirmed that information at the time. The reported deaths therefore remained unconfirmed by police.
