Russian attack on Kyiv and surrounding region damages energy infrastructure

At least one person was killed and eight were injured, including a child, in a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight on 6–7 November. Ukrainian authorities, quoted by FRANCE 24, reported the casualties and damage to energy infrastructure, homes and non-residential buildings.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko described the situation with electricity, heating and water supplies in the capital as exceptionally difficult. Regional authorities said energy facilities had been hit in at least three districts of the Kyiv region, extending the damage beyond the city itself.

Klitschko also said several missiles had struck the Northern Bridge across the Dnipro. FRANCE 24 reported the damage and casualty figures in coverage compiled from Reuters and Associated Press reports. The reported death toll of at least one was not a final figure.

Russia confirms large-scale strike

Russia’s defence ministry confirmed that it had carried out a large-scale attack. It said the targets were military-industrial facilities, along with energy and transport infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding area.

That account represents the Russian side’s stated position, rather than an independent assessment of all the sites hit. Ukrainian authorities also reported damage to homes, as well as people killed and injured. For residents of the capital and the surrounding region, the consequences of the overnight attack include difficulties accessing basic services: electricity, heating and water.
