German authorities have arrested two Turkish nationals suspected of setting fire to a Starlink station in Wola Krobowska, in Poland’s Mazovia region. RMF24, citing minister Marcin Kierwiński, reports that the arrests took place on Monday 12 October. The suspects are awaiting surrender to Poland.
The investigation concerns a fire on 23 September in Grójec county. According to RMF24, the station’s antennas caught fire and a power generator was also damaged. No one was injured. The arrests in Germany mark a new stage in the investigation and, the broadcaster reports, were based on evidence prepared by Polish police, the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and prosecutors.
Poland’s national police chief, Marek Boroń, said investigators had secured recordings, fingerprints and DNA evidence. He also said they had reconstructed the preparations and escape route of the people they suspect of involvement in the arson.
Surrender to Poland and planned charges
According to police, the two suspects are awaiting surrender to the Polish authorities under the European Arrest Warrant procedure. Kierwiński said that, once brought to Poland, they would face charges relating to sabotage and acts of subversion carried out on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. Both their surrender and the bringing of those charges remain planned steps, rather than completed actions.
Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Russian intelligence services were behind the act of sabotage. That is the minister’s assessment of responsibility for the fire, not a court finding. The two people arrested remain suspects; their arrest does not establish their guilt.
