Five people were killed and 16 injured in a Houthi attack on the Al-Maashiq palace complex in Aden, southern Yemen, according to Yemeni health minister Qasim Buhaibeh. The headquarters of the internationally recognised government was attacked on Thursday 15 October 2026.
The health minister said palace guards and civilian staff were among the casualties. The Guardian and Euronews reported the authorities’ casualty figures. Information minister Moammar al-Eryani said Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani and members of the government were safe.
A Yemeni cabinet statement quoted by The Guardian said missiles and drones were used in the attack. The full extent of the damage and precisely which buildings within the complex were hit have not been established.
The Houthis claimed responsibility. Their military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said the target was a facility he described as a Saudi military operations headquarters in Aden. That description is a claim by the attacking side, rather than an independently confirmed account of the purpose of the building struck. The Al-Maashiq complex houses Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.
The reported death toll and number of injured are based on information from the Yemeni authorities and have not been independently confirmed. Earlier reports gave a lower casualty figure, but subsequent coverage by The Guardian and Euronews both cited five people killed and 16 injured.
