At least 15 people, including three children, were killed in a Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning, 10 October 2026, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by the BBC. At least 16 people were injured. Rescuers were still searching for missing people who could be trapped beneath the rubble of residential buildings.
According to the BBC, five glide bombs were used in the attack. Residential buildings were hit, and photographs and footage described by the broadcaster show a largely destroyed block of flats.
Zaporizhzhia’s acting mayor, Regina Kharchenko, told Ukrainian television that the strike hit the ground floor of a building, causing the upper floors to collapse. She said more than 80 personnel were involved in the search and rescue operation.
The casualty figures reported by the authorities were not final: searches were continuing, and the fate of those reported missing remained unknown. Reports that people might be beneath the rubble did not amount to confirmation of further deaths.
