Three injured in Warsaw school attack; woman arrested

Three people were injured in an attack at an educational institution in Warsaw on Saturday 10 October. Police arrested a woman who, according to initial findings, was a student there, the BBC reports, citing information given by the authorities to the Polish Press Agency (PAP) and the Associated Press (AP).

Police said the suspect attacked a girl with a “dangerous object”. The BBC describes the incident as a knife attack. One of those injured was taken to hospital; according to information from the authorities cited by the broadcaster, her injuries were not life-threatening. That assessment applies to the hospitalised victim, not to all three people injured.

The other two victims had come to the institution to submit enrolment documents, PAP reported. Initial police findings suggested that the suspect did not know those who were injured. Her arrest does not establish her guilt.

The BBC describes the Warsaw incident as the third knife attack in Polish schools that week, following attacks on 7 and 8 October. A female member of staff was killed in one of the earlier incidents, at a school in Leszczydół-Nowiny.

No link between the incidents has been confirmed. A Warsaw police spokesperson did not confirm whether the latest attack was connected to the two earlier incidents. The fact that they occurred within days of one another does not establish a shared motive or mean they were part of a connected series.
