At least 13 people were killed in a Russian drone attack on a railway station in Dnipro on Thursday 29 October. According to Ukrainian authorities cited by Deutsche Welle and Euronews, the drone struck a platform where passengers were gathered. Other people were injured.
The attack happened in the morning, with trains standing alongside the platform. Those gathered included passengers waiting for a regional service to Zaporizhzhia, DW reports, citing Ukraine’s national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia. The death toll of at least 13 is not a final figure.
Ukrainian railway officials said a warning of a heightened threat had been issued before the strike. Many people nevertheless remained on the platform. The reports do not explain the circumstances in which passengers stayed there.
Reports give different minimum numbers of people injured. Euronews cites regional authorities reporting at least five injured and Ukrainian police reporting at least ten. It is unclear in which order those statements were issued, so the figures cannot be treated as a confirmed update to the casualty toll.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and called on the United States and Europe to take decisive action in response to Russia’s escalation.
